3rd Grade Activities: Week 2

RELIGION: daily prayer; attend Mass; read about St. Monica, St. Augustine, St. John the Baptist, St. Pammachius, and St. Aidan.

MATH: addition review in Developmental Math, various time4learning activities.

SPELLING: Spell Well learn 11 words.

LANGUAGE ARTS: various time4learning on-line activities.

READING: Partial book: passages from Peter and Wendy, J.M. Barrie.
Whole books (picture books, emergent- and early-reader books): Grandmas at Bat, Emily Arnold McCully;
Old Turtle's Soccer Team, Leonard Kessler;
Fox Be Nimble, James Marshall;
The Show-and-Tell Frog, Joanne Oppenheim;
Super Cluck, Jane and Robert O'Connor;
Catch Me If You Can!, Bernard Most;
Stan the Hot Dog Man, Ethel and Leonard Kessler.

READ ALOUD: Peter and Wendy, J.M. Barrie;
Animal Ark: Puppies in the Pantry, Ben M. Baglio.

SCIENCE/NATURE: care of fish and small pets, observe and help identify a small black bug, "Clumsy", who is the size of a flea, but doesn't look like a flea. It appears to be a black carpet beetle.

Find, observe and house and care for another beetle which looks most like this one (except the shape of its body): a Hermit flower beetle. The body shape looks more like a false bombardier beetle (about 1/2 way down this page).

Observe spider in a web, and a full solar eclipse; various time4learning on-line activities.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE: attend Spanish story time; practice greetings in Mandarin with a native speaker.

ART: coloring pages; illustrate 8 chapters of Peter and Wendy, by J.M. Barrie; clay creations; attend drawing basics class -- draw 3-D objects: cylinder, cube, cone, etc.




MUSIC: listen to classical and contemporary music; make up a song to remember the names of some shops; attend performances including Chinese lion dancers, Taiko drummers, Chinese folk dancers, hula hoop performer and a local teenage band.

P.E.: swimming; soccer practice; park time; play with dogs at dog park.
